In 2000, Learning 21 sought entrants in its competition, Australian Schools’ Web Challenge. Students were required to create a web site on the theme “Time Travellers”. The mission was to go back in time to find out how their community had changed. Sample questions to be answered were: How did people live? What education was available? Where did they work? How had the community developed? Participating in the Australian Schools Web Challenge was a chance to develop Information Communication Skills in a real world context.
Year 7CB gathered information and images of Burleigh’s colourful history. As well as researching and writing to noted historians, local personalities and long time residents were invited to the classroom to contribute their recollections. The web site was awarded State winner and was placed second nationally. 7CB were lucky enough to fly to Sydney for the award.
